Fabrizio Romano suggests Tottenham could sign £35m player for absolutely nothing next summer

Tottenham Hotspur continue to be linked with new midfield signings this summer after signing both Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray.

Spurs are still looking to add a new midfield player, and, as ever, Conor Gallagher is a player who has been strongly linked.

The England international is said to be close to a £35m move to Atletico Madrid. However, there’s still a chance for a twist in this tale.

Indeed, Gallagher may opt to stay in the UK, and if he does, Spurs will be there waiting in the wings.

Speaking on Playback, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Gallagher’s options, and he made a very interesting suggestion.

Indeed, the reporter claimed that Gallagher could ultimately leave Chelsea on a free next summer, stating that Tottenham will be an option for him if he does run his contract down.

Conor Gallagher could join Tottenham on a free
Romano shared an update on the midfielder.

“On Conor Gallagher, I wanted to tell you something on Conor Gallagher. I wanted to tell you that the agreement between Chelsea and Atletico is basically ok, it’s basically done,” Romano said.

“The player decision is so important and in this case even more because Conor Gallagher is a free agent next summer. At the moment he has no agreement to extend the contract at Chelsea.

“Gallagher has many options to join other clubs next summer on a free transfer, for example, Tottenham are still keeping a close eye on the situation of Conor Gallagher, still very interested, the biggest fan of Gallagher is probably Ange Postecoglou.”

Chelsea would have an absolute disaster on their hands if Gallagher were to leave on a free.

Chelsea have serious Profit and Sustainability issues, and Gallagher is one of the only players in their squad who can solve those problems.

Indeed, as a homegrown talent, Gallagher’s sale would really help Chelsea from an accountancy perspective, but if he goes on a free, Chelsea will have to scramble for other solutions.

The Blues should try their very best to sell Gallagher this summer, because a departure on a free would be nothing short of a financial catastrophe.
