“Birmingham City Sudden’ Managerial Appointment”.
The 39-year-old has joined St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park a little over two weeks after Tony Mowbray’s permanent departure was confirmed, committing to a four-year contract.
Birmingham’s thorough search concluded somewhat abruptly. Over two weeks of speculation included names like Liam Rosenior, Alex Neil, Paul Heckingbottom, and Frank Lampard, but as rumors quieted down, Birmingham secured Davies.
Tottenham will now need a new assistant for Ange Postecoglou since Davies has taken his first head coach role.
Who is Chris Davies, Birmingham’s new manager?
Davies, a former Wales Under-19 international, transitioned to coaching about 14 years ago. He owes much of his career to Brendan Rodgers, who first hired him at Swansea City in 2010.
Davies then followed Rodgers to Liverpool for three years until Jürgen Klopp’s arrival. After a brief stint at Reading as a first-team coach, Davies reunited with Rodgers at Celtic.
As an assistant, Davies helped Celtic achieve a domestic treble for only the fourth time in their history. Nearly three successful years at Celtic ended with a move to Leicester City, where the team won the FA Cup and Community Shield before Davies left in April 2023.
