West Ham United submit opening bid to sign Scott McTominay, Manchester United make decision
West Ham have had a bid rejected to sign midfielder Scott McTominay from Manchester United, according to Sacha Tavolieri.
The RMC Sport journalist tweeted on 6 August that the Red Devils have turned down an opening offer from the Hammers for the Scotland international that is believed to worth £40million.
He said the 26-year-old, who holds a special place in former boss Jose Mourinho’s heart [Sky Sports], is also attracting interest from the Portuguese’s current club Roma.
It seems like West Ham’s transfer window has finally sprung into action and it’s about time after weeks of making no progress and failing to make a single signing.
If an offer of £40million has been turned down for McTominay, it would be interesting to know whether that is because Man United value him much higher than that or if he’s part of Erik ten Hag’s plans for the season.
It’s hard to imagine the Hammers forking out much more than that for one player as they look to strengthen a number of areas of the squad this summer.
But McTominay has all the characteristics to show he would be an excellent signing if he were to make the move to the London Stadium and he would be a solid replacement for Declan Rice.
It’s also interesting that David Moyes may seem to be getting his way on the transfer front now after Tim Steidten reportedly didn’t want to sign McTominay.
