Tottenham Hotspur now linked with 27-year-old England international striker
Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur are now being linked with Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
According to Football Transfers, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Ivan Toney from London and Premier League rivals Brentford.
Tottenham have identified the 27-year-old England international striker as a potential replacement for Harry Kane.
According to the report, Bayern Munich are trying to sign Kane from Spurs, while Manchester United remain interested in the England international striker.
Football Transfers have claimed that Tottenham are willing to wait until January 2024 to make a move for Toney.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would reportedly prefer to keep Kane at the club until the middle of next season and then replace the striker with Toney.
“There is still a chance Tottenham may opt to bring in Toney this summer – but that would depend on any possible Kane departure,” adds the report.
Football Transfers have noted that Toney is banned from playing until January 16, 2024.
Tottenham Hotspur could struggle to sign Ivan Toney in January 2024
We do not think that Tottenham Hotspur will be able to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford in January 2024.
Firstly, Brentford will not want to lose one of their best players just when he becomes available to play.
The striker scored 20 goals and gave four assists in 33 Premier League appearances for the Bees last season.
In 2021-22, Toney scored 12 goals and gave five assists in 32 Premier League starts for Brentford.
Moreover, Toney himself may not be willing to leave Brentford in the middle of the season after serving the ban.
The striker could feel a sense of obligation to help the Bees in the Premier League.
Moreover, it would be a risk for Tottenham to sell Kane in the middle of next season and bring in a replacement who will not have played at all for the first half of the campaign.
