Liverpool set to confirm two transfers worth £50m with both ‘medicals imminent’
Liverpool are set to green light medicals for Fabinho and Jordan Henderson after talks over the latter’s sale made progress yesterday, according to reports.
The Reds have already signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton in a deal worth £35m and splashed out another £60m on Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.
That had seemed like sorting out the Liverpool midfield for another season but rumours of interest from Saudi Arabia in Fabinho and Henderson has thrown Jurgen Klopp’s plans out the window.
Fabinho’s exit is currently understood to be more advanced with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealing yesterday that the Brazilian has agreed to join Saudi side Al-Ittihad.
“Many things are moving around Liverpool in terms of [their] midfield,” Romano told his YouTube channel. “This is a really crucial moment for Liverpool, it’s a revolution.
“They signed Alexis Mac Allister, they signed also Dominik Szoboszlai, but now between Fabinho and Al-Ittihad the agreement is done in terms of the player and under discussion between Liverpool and Al-Ittihad.
“Liverpool are waiting for the official documents to check some details of the payment terms, the instalments, so they’re still very cautious on the process.
“But, the negotiation is very advanced and ongoing. This is why Fabinho’s not with Liverpool in Germany.”
Henderson’s future is less certain with rumours that Al Ettifaq – who have prepared a £700k-a-week deal – are not willing to pay a fee to take the England international to the Middle East.
But Football Insider now insist that Liverpool ‘expect to follow the sale of Fabinho this week with that of skipper Jordan Henderson after negotiations progressed in the last 24 hours.’
The website add that the two medicals are ‘imminent’ after Henderson ‘agreed’ to join former team-mate Steven Gerrard at Al Ettifaq, while ‘Fabinho has been given the green light by the club to finalise the terms of a £40million move to Al-Ittihad’.
It is understood that exits for both players are now ‘well advanced and expected to go through’ as Al Ettifaq are now expected to pay around £10m for Henderson.
Football Insider add: ‘The Saudi club are confident a medical and the formalities of the move will now be completed soon, putting an end to the England international’s glittering 12-year Anfield career.’
