‘Keep him’: John Aldridge tells Liverpool not to sell ‘very talented’ 24-year-old player

John Aldridge has said that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool should not sell Caoimhin Kelleher in the summer transfer window.

The former Liverpool player has told The Sunday World that he would keep Caoimhin Kelleher at Anfield.

The pundit has noted that the 24-year-old Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper is a very talented player.

Aldridge said about Kelleher: “It’s a tough one. I think he got found out in the last game of the season (4-4 draw at Southampton) because he was very rusty. He played his worst game for the club.

“That apart, the lad has got everything going for him in modern day football. He needs to play games. It’s alright training, but you get your experience playing games.

“They have got three cups where he will play; the FA Cup, League Cup and the Europa League. So he will get more games than in other seasons.

“He’s still very young, very talented, so I’d selfishly want to keep him. You have to see how the lad feels and what the club wants.

“He could get into a lot of Premier League sides, but I obviously hope he stays at Liverpool.”

Caoimhin Kelleher

What should Caoimhin Kelleher about Liverpool future?

In our opinion, if Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has the chance to leave in the summer transfer window, then he should do so.

Yes, Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world and are a global brand.

And yes, Liverpool will be aiming to win the Premier League and the UEFA Europa League next season.

The Reds will also have FA Cup and Carabao Cup games next season.

However, in the Premier League, it will be Alisson who will play week in and week out.

For Kelleher to progress and develop as a player, he needs to play on a regular basis.

The 24-year-old is not going to get that at Liverpool.

If the goalkeeper finds a club who play at a competitive level and where he would play week in and week in, then he should move there.
