Liverpool has completed its second signing of the summer, with Dominik Szoboszlai becoming the latest arrival in Jürgen Klopp’s rebuild.

The former RB Leipzig midfielder was officially unveiled earlier today, having signed a five-year deal and taken on the number eight shirt at Anfield.

Liverpool moved quickly in order to trigger Szoboszlai’s $76m (£60m/€70m) release clause in Germany and with Alexis Mac Allister already in the building, the Reds have firmly thrown down the gauntlet to some of their rivals.

One of them though might be eyeing up some revenge, with reports suggesting Newcastle could be eyeing up a player Liverpool has been strongly linked with.

Meanwhile, Chelsea still needs to clear some room at Stamford Bridge, and as many as seven big names could make way this summer as Mauricio Pochettino gets down to work.

Newcastle moving ‘concretely’ for Khéphren Thuram

Liverpool is reportedly ‘speeding things up’ for Khéphren Thuram as it looks to prevent Newcastle from entering the race.

According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Liverpool is anticipating competition from Newcastle, with the Magpies having started to move ‘concretely’ for the midfielder.

Galetti reported earlier in the week that talks had been progressing between the Reds and Nice, with the two clubs looking to reach an agreement for around $44m (£34m/€40m).

Liverpool.com says: This is the new reality for Liverpool. How strong the interest actually is in Thuram isn’t all that clear, but Newcastle has emerged as a new rival in the transfer market.

The Magpies might have had to admit defeat with Szoboszlai, but not every player is going to be as determined to get a move to Anfield. They might well be able to get a bit of revenge this summer.

Chelsea could sell Christian Pulisic and six more

Chelsea is still looking to sell seven more players this summer, with USMNT star Christian Pulisic among those the Blues are looking to offload.

According to the Express, Pulisic, Romelu Lukaku, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Trevoh Chalobah, César Azpilicueta and Marc Cucurella could all be on their way amid a $269m (£212m/€247m) fire sale.

Chelsea has already sold Kai Havertz, N’Golo Kanté, Édouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly, but Mauricio Pochettino’s squad remains bloated following a disastrous 2022/23 season.

Liverpool.com says: It’s no surprise really to see Chelsea trying to offload as many as seven players this summer, and the caliber of the players named shows just how big a mess the Stamford Bridge club is right now.

Pulisic is an interesting case. Having arrived as an exciting prospect, it hasn’t worked out for him at Chelsea, and he desperately needs a fresh start.

At 24, time is still on his side, and he might have been a player that would have interested Liverpool not long ago, but the Reds’ priorities lie elsewhere now.
