Chong rightfully complained that Coufal had fouled him throughout the build-up, but his protests were ignored. If there had been more contact, VAR might have taken a look, but as it was, the referee called play on just right, and West Ham capitalised.
If a foul had been called the other way, West Ham would have been more likely to score a second goal nevertheless, especially because rookie George Earthy scored with his first touch after coming off the bench. The Hammers were well worth their 3-1 lead at halftime in the latter stages.
