Another Sean Dyche blow as official statement confirms Everton star to be ruled out for most of January
Everton have had to dig deep into their reserves as of late with a host of key players having spent time on the sidelines.
It has made life pretty for Sean Dyche, who has managed his squad pretty admirably and led the Toffees to four straight wins before suffering defeats to Tottenham and Manchester City in games where they arguably deserved more.
But there is now, officially, another headache for Dyche to contend with following an official announcement made on Friday (29 December).
Midfield ace Idrissa Gueye, who has already missed time with a calf problem, has been selected to represent Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations, as confirmed by Actu Foot Afrique (29 December).
The tournament takes place between January 13 and February 11 and Senegal are ranked as favourites by many to take home the trophy.
It means Dyche is going to be without one of his key players for a significant amount of time and with few funds to play with it might not be feasible to bring in January cover.
Everton
There are a minimum of six games to be played before the end of the tournament, a significant amount of time to be missing at a crucial part of the season when Everton just need to turn the tide of momentum back in their favour.
Abdoulaye Doucoure has previously stated his intention to remain with Everton rather than represent Mali at AFCON, but the Toffees still need to get him back fit and playing.
Dyche has some headaches to contend with in the coming weeks, but if he has proven one thing it is that he is adept at getting everyone in his squad to sing from the same hymn sheet. Let’s hope he can work a bit more magic over the next month or so.
