Next Tottenham exit takes shape as two sources confirm Saudi interest that star is ‘aware’ of

Tottenham Hotspur could continue their clearout by offloading Hugo Lloris to a club in Saudi Arabia, according to a couple of reports.

Lloris has been frozen out at Tottenham after the summer signing of Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli to be their new number one. Over the summer, Spurs gave permission to their former captain to explore an exit. However, by the end of the English transfer window, he had not yet found a new club.

The transfer window is still open in Saudi Arabia, though, which means Lloris could move there in theory. According to Football Insider and the Daily Mail, a move to the Middle East is now an option for the Frenchman.

No specific suitors are named for the 36-year-old, but the Saudi Pro League has aggressively been attracting high-profile players with lucrative offers this year.

The Daily Mail has clarified that Lloris is aware of the interest from Saudi Arabia. He is now contemplating his next move after turning down a deadline-day return to Nice.

Per the report, Lloris will take into account the impact on his young family of any next move he makes. From Spurs’ perspective, though, the green light is still there for him to leave.

Saudi clubs have until September 7 to complete any additional signings for the summer. Meanwhile, Football Insider has mentioned Turkey – where the window is open until September 15 – as another potential destination for Lloris.

Tottenham have just offloaded Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele to Galatasaray thanks to the extended Super Lig deadline. Once again, it is not clear which specific clubs in Turkey might be looking at Lloris, but it could become an option for him.

One year remains on the former Lyon shot-stopper’s contract in north London. He has made almost 450 appearances across his 11-year spell with Spurs, but no longer has an important role for the club he captained until the end of last season.

Even Fraser Forster has been promoted ahead of him in the pecking order to act as the main deputy to Vicario. Therefore, Lloris risks a few months – at least – of inactivity if he fails to leave Tottenham.

Doubts raised over Lloris’ willingness to move to Saudi Arabia
A previous report from the Evening Standard suggested he was likely to stay at the club until January, claiming he has already rejected offers from Saudi Arabia.

He also failed to come to an agreement with Lazio earlier in the summer and late links with Newcastle came to nothing too.

Explaining his decision to turn down Nice on deadline day, he told Nice-Matin: “An hour before the end of the window, I received a call from an agent who evoked the possibility of joining Nice. Playing prospects and the sporting project, the real motors behind a player’s decision, much more so than financial conditions, weren’t clearly broached.

“The supporters and the team deserve better than a split-second decision based on a phone call without expectations or a clear sporting project with one hour until the closure of the window at a time when I wasn’t expecting it.”

With his options narrowing, there have been claims that Tottenham could terminate the final year of Lloris’ deal. For the next few days, though, they will be waiting to see if anything concrete materialises from one of the markets that remain open.
