Premier League side now £5m away from beating Tottenham to ‘ridiculous’ midfielder

Right now, it’s difficult to decide what will be Ange Postecoglou’s strongest midfield combination at Tottenham Hotspur this season.

Last term, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma started incredibly strongly, propping up a Tottenham attacking quartet that even looked capable of a title challenge.

However, that ambition and Postecoglou’s plans were heavily disrupted by injuries and suspensions.

Eventually, once Bissouma had returned from his suspension and time away at AFCON, Rodrigo Bentancur had also recovered his fitness, ready to contribute too.

And at that point, it became very difficult to decide whom Postecoglou would choose game to game – a manager who will never stop experimenting.

That being said, after Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall arrivals this summer, there is now added competition.

And whilst Bergvall will need time to be fully first-team ready at Tottenham, Gray will hope to contribute immediately.

But that’s not to say Spurs couldn’t still have space for another addition.

Oliver Skipp was poor for Tottenham against Team K League, and if Johan Lange could find a suitable homegrown replacement, perhaps the club could seek an upgrade.

Fulham edging closer to agreement for Tottenham target Scott McTominay

With that in mind, Tottenham have been credited with interest in Scott McTominay this summer.

McTominay enjoyed some ‘ridiculous’ form last term scoring 10 goals for United despite not always being a regular starter.

And after the Scot bagged again for his country at the Euros, it’s becoming harder to ignore the 27-year-old’s talent.

That being said, if Spurs decide to table a bid for McTominay this summer they will face stiff competition from Fulham, who are getting closer to agreeing a fee with United.

According to The Times, Fulham have now made a second offer for McTominay this summer worth £20m.

United are expected to reject the bid as they want between £25-30m, but it’s significant to think that the Cottagers could be only £5m or so away.

Of course, if Tottenham do decide to make a move, it has to be believed that their financial muscle would be able to gazump Fulham’s interest.

Tottenham were close to paying £50m for Jacob Ramsey in January and in June, demonstrating that the funds are definitely there.

And perhaps it’s just now a case of deciding whether McTominay is suited to playing alongside James Maddison in the same midfield – two attack-minded players.
