Frank McAvennie admits he was left disappointed by the West Ham United Premier League draw against Brighton which turned out to be a “snooze fest”.
The Seagulls earned their first Premier League clean sheet of the season in a 0-0 draw at the London Stadium on Tuesday 2 January, but should have left with more from a wasteful attacking showing.
West Ham United had Alphonse Areola to thank after David Moyes’ side struggled to sustain any real attacking threat against their opponents in the absence of Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus.
“But, to go again and beat Manchester United and then that against Brighton was disappointing. Why didn’t Moyes go out and attack?
“I mean Brighton are a decent team, they’d been playing well and then West Ham United had been playing well too and so you expected a very good and exciting game and then you go and get that? Dearie me!
“They were lucky to get a draw from that but it is what is and hopefully Moyes can learn next time.”
Paqueta and Kudus were hugely missed by the Hammers against the Seagulls as Jarrod Bowen was left to fend for himself in attack with Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma alongside him, somewhat nonexistent.
The West Ham United fans will have certainly been forgiven for being angered at what they saw on their own turf as it seemed like Brighton were the home team and not the Irons.
Moyes certainly has to receive praise for where he’s brought the club ever since he came in but the display against Brighton certainly showcased the doubts some fans have surrounding his playing style.
If the club are to push forward in the near future, it won’t be sustainable to always deploy a reserved approach when teams are clearly there for the kill.
