Premier League side now plotting move for £17m Crystal Palace player who said he wants to leave

Crystal Palace star Joachim Andersen has been a top performer since his arrival in 2021, but the defender is now attracting interest from Newcastle.

The 27-year-old has formed a strong partnership at the back with Marc Guehi, who has also been linked with an exit.

Andersen has made 82 appearances for Palace, scoring three times, and two of his goals have come this season.

A report from TEAMTALK has now claimed that Newcastle are keen on adding Andersen to their ranks as they search for more defensive depth, and they see him as the ideal long-term replacement for Fabian Schar.

However, Newcastle’s issues with Financial Fair Play saw them close a deal for Lewis Hall on an initial loan, and their spending power will be limited in January. This means that, should they pursue a move for Andersen, it will likely come next summer rather than in the winter window.

Andersen’s recent comments hinting that he would like to play Champions League football highlight an unfortunate reality for Crystal Palace: whilst the club continues on its current trajectory, the best players may eye up moves away.

Newcastle are having a strong campaign, having returned to Europe’s elite competition for the first time in over 20 years, and look set to compete in Europe for the foreseeable future.
