Ben Godfrey transfer news as red tape emerges on potential Everton exit
Everton are hesitant to allow Ben Godfrey to join Sheffield United in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper reported on page 53 of its print edition on Wednesday (24 January) that the 26-year-old, who has emerged as a transfer target for the Blades, may see a Goodison Park exit blocked due to the Toffees not wanting to help a potential relegation rival.

The Blues currently sit one point above the drop zone in the Premier League, but they are seven points above the bottom of the table Yorkshire club.

Understandable

It’s entirely understandable that Everton are reluctant to allow Godfrey to join Sheffield United as he could help them in their bid for survival over the next few months.

While they are seven points from safety at the bottom of the table, that isn’t an insurmountable gap given how many games are still left to play this season.

It would largely depend on what offer the Blades put down on the table for the English defender as it would have to be pretty financially rewarding for the Toffees to consider an approach.

Sean Dyche would probably prefer him to go to one of the other interested parties after Calciomercato reported on Sunday (21 January) that Leeds United and AC Milan also want to sign the centre-back.

It will be interesting to see how this situation develops over the next few days as more interest could come the Blues’ way as clubs start to panic as the deadline edges closer.
