Paratici was ‘desperate’ to sign Anthony Gordon for Tottenham – Sources

Sources: Fabio Paratici ‘obsessed’ with Anthony Gordon and wants him at Tottenham

Fabio Paratici was very keen to sign now-Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon during his time as Tottenham director of football, sources have told Football Insider.

Gordon, 22, joined the Magpies from Everton in January of this year for a reported £45million.

That signing has gone on to bear fruit for Newcastle, with the England Under-21 international notching four goals and two assists already in the 2023-24 campaign.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Paratici was “obsessed” with Gordon and was “desperate” to bring him to Spurs.

The Italian has since stepped back as a Tottenham director following a worldwide 30-month ban from football after he was convicted by the Italian FA of financial malpractice.

Nevertheless, Paratici remains connected with Spurs and sources say he is still a “huge fan” of Gordon despite his mega-money move to Newcastle.

Ange Postecoglou’s side instead moved to sign Wales international Brennan Johnson, who plays in a similar role to Gordon.

Tottenham paid a reported £47.5million for the forward, who is yet to find the net for his new club.

Paratici was instrumental in the signings of several of Spurs’ top performers during his time in an official capacity at the club – with Dejan Kulusevski, Cristian Romero and Rodrigo Bentancur among those to join under his watch.

Postecgolou is now reaping the rewards of that work with the Lilywhites sitting second in the Premier League despite Monday’s (6 November) 4-1 home loss against Chelsea.
