Micah Parsons made one regrettable mistake against Panthers

Dallas Cowboys edge-rusher Micah Parsons was not at 100% on Sunday when his team faced off against the Carolina Panthers.

The Cowboys bested the Panthers 33-10 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C.

On the surface, Parsons looked as dominant as he’s ever been. He tied his single-game career-high in sacks with 2.5 against the Panthers. Parsons was even able to crawl on all fours to celebrate a first-quarter sack.

However, Parsons might have been a little too pumped for the matchup. He stated after the game that he was feeling the effects of taking too much C4 energy drink powder. The Cowboys star admitted after the game that his heart was thumping just a few plays into the contest.

“I got some water to help put it down. By the fifth play it felt like my heart was gonna jump outta my chest. I felt like I was about to explode. I’m never doing that [stuff] again,” Parsons said.

Parsons appears to still be planning to take the pre-workout beverage going forward, but in a smaller dose next time.

The Cowboys’ win over the Panthers was their fourth in their last five games. They are second in the NFC East with their 7-3 record.

New NCAA evidence led to Michigan’s leadership starting to understand the true gravity of the situation regarding the sign-stealing scandal. Michigan has been under scrutiny since October over allegations a staffer, Connor Stalions, pre-scouted teams to steal signs. Stalions has since left the team, but more evidence is coming that other major staffers have played a concerning role in the scandal. Last week, the Big Ten banned head coach Jim Harbaugh from coaching on the sideline for Michigan’s remaining regular-season games. Michigan vowed to defend Harbaugh and to fight to keep him on the sideline this season. But the school and Harbaugh agreed to the Big Ten’s ban. Michigan doesn’t need to worry about the Big Ten. But it should be worried about the NCAA. NCAA has new evidence on Michigan’s sign-stealing scandal Per ESPN’s Dan Murphy, Adam Rittenberg and Pete Thamel, Michigan agreed to Harbaugh’s ban as more evidence was brought to its attention including the suggestion that a “university booster helped fund” Stalions’ scheme.. The school “received evidence” that linebackers coach Chris Partridge tried to tamper with an investigation into the sign-stealing scandal: “After striking a consistently defiant stance and pursuing litigation last Friday, Michigan withdrew its legal complaint the night before a scheduled hearing on Thursday and accepted the Big Ten’s full three-game suspension of Harbaugh. “Sources told ESPN that university leadership this week has shifted its tone from the stern rebuke of the league’s sanctions to a growing acceptance that the football program might be dealing with significant NCAA infractions that could include a failure to properly monitor the program on Harbaugh’s part.” Jim Harbaugh accepted punishment for a reason The report stated no evidence had been produced Harbaugh was directly involved with the scandal. But he faces collateral damage in the fallout. Michigan is sobering up to how deep this scandal runs. Harbaugh might not have signed off on the pre-scouting, but Partridge’s role in tampering with the investigation is troubling for the head coach. Harbaugh appears either aloof in managing the program or the program is very good at protecting him. Michigan’s administration knows what’s coming, and that’s why they allowed Harbaugh to take his punishment.

Braves reportedly focused on one pitcher after missing out on Aaron Nola

The Atlanta Braves are moving on to their backup plan after their efforts to sign Aaron Nola away from the Philadelphia Phillies fell short. The Braves are now one of the “top suitors” for free-agent pitcher Sonny Gray, according to Jon Morosi of MLB.com. Gray is one of the top free agents left on the market, and the Braves are clearly in the market for a front-line starter. Nola agreed on Sunday to a huge contract to remain with the Phillies, which was unwelcome news for Atlanta. The Braves were one of two teams said to be strongly pursuing Nola prior to that decision. Gray would be a perfectly sound backup plan from Atlanta’s perspective. In 32 starts for Minnesota last year, he went 8-8 with a 2.79 ERA. Those numbers were good enough to make him runner-up in AL Cy Young voting.

No defense in the NFL has more interceptions than the San Francisco 49ers. But the way the team secured its league-leading 14th pick of the season was a combination of perfect timing and an unfortunate blooper at the hands of Baker Mayfield. On a third-and-6 with 3:38 left in the game from the 49ers 9-yard line, Mayfield dropped back and tried to hit receiver Chris Godwin in stride after breaking back toward the middle of the field on a snag route. Unfortunately for Mayfield, he found the helmet of 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw instead, causing the ball to bounce in the air where it was snagged by safety Ji’Ayir Brown in the end zone, halting Tampa’s best scoring threat since the first minute of the fourth quarter. It marked the second straight game that Mayfield was picked off. He’s now thrown an interception in six of his last eight games. It was also the first career interception for Brown, who’s played in just four games this season after being drafted in the third round of the 2023 draft out of Penn State. With 14 interceptions, the 49ers now have two more than the next-closest team, the Cincinnati Bengals. San Francisco has four players — Fred Warner (three), Talanoa Hufanga (three), Charvarius Ward (two) and Deommodore Lenoir (two) — with multiple interceptions and eight players with at least one.

Another White Sox trade could come to fruition for Braves

Alex Anthopoulos worked out a deal with Chris Getz a couple of days ago, sending fan favorite Michael Soroka to Chicago along with Jared Shuster, Nicky Lopez, Braden Shewmake and Riley Gowens in exchange for Aaron Bummer, but there could be another blockbuster trade on the horizon for the Braves and White Sox. According to Bob Nightengale, Gertz has made it very clear that his club is willing to listen to any offers on any player. Eloy Jimenez, who finished fourth in the 2019 Rookie of the Year race and followed it up with a Silver Slugger during the shortened 2020 campaign, is someone that Ken Rosenthal noted being available, but I’ve got my sights a bit higher. Dylan Cease is one of the most talented pitchers in the sport and will surely garner a haul of prospects in return if he’s moved, but it seems like the exact kind of splash Alex Anthopoulos has made in the past. Instead of getting into a bidding war for one of the highly coveted free agents (Aaron Nola, Sonny Gray, etc.), it seems much more likely that Double-A acquires that frontline starter via trade. Whether it’s an ace like Corbin Burnes or maybe a middle-of-the-rotation guy like Freddy Peralta, there are avenues the Braves can take other than overpaying in free agency. Cease and Burns are obviously frontline starters that would cost an arm and a leg, but the former would be more expensive in terms of prospect capital because of the multiple years of control. He’s coming off one of his worst seasons, posting a 4.58 ERA over 33 starts, but Cease finished second in the AL Cy Young race in 2022, posting a 2.20 ERA and 11.1 K/9. The Georgia native features nasty stuff, but what’s most attractive about the prospect of acquiring him is his durability, recording 32+ starts in each of the last three seasons with a combined ERA of 3.54 and a FIP of 3.40. The White Sox are seemingly open for business, and now that Anthopoulos and Getz have already worked out one deal, there’s a path for more trades in the future. The asking price for Dylan Cease will be incredibly high, but that doesn’t mean the Braves can’t work out a deal.
