Must read: Gianluca Scamacca has departed West Ham after just one season.
It was widely hoped that when our Hammers for a deal worth £35m, we had finally landed the striker who would lead the line for seasons to come, however sadly that again has not been the case.
Scamacca this week secured his move back to his homeland Italy by signing a long-term contract with Atalanta – thus ending his stint in East London after just 12 months.
Undoubtedly there will be serious questions raised over the recruitment of the player, who joins a long list of strikers the club have forked out significant funds for, yet to not succeed at the club despite possessing obvious qualities.
The West Ham Way Podcast hosts Dave Walker and ExWHUEmployee have spoken of their dissapointiment in seeing Scamacca depart, with questions raised again over the ‘system’ and manager.
“It is a disappointing end to his time at the club,” stated ExWHUEmployee. “I thought he showed early on that he had a lot of potential and you could see he was a top forward.
“It became increasingly obvious though this preseason that his heart longed to go back to Italy and when a club finally offered an acceptable offer, it was obvious the best situation for all was to let him return home.
“Whilst I look back on his transfer with disappointment, I wish him the best for his future career.”
“I’m genuinely gutted to see him go,” added Dave Walker. “I think he’s a real talent but needs the right manager and the right system, sadly at West Ham he had neither. Shame.”
West Ham are now expected to be active in the transfer market as we look to strengthen ahead of the new season, with Ex providing up to date knowledge of the goings on, on The West Ham Way Patreon.
