Liverpool director Jorg Schmadtke spotted as Reds close in on third summer signing
Liverpool’s transfer business is coming to a head as they wrap up a deal to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton after sporting director Jorg Schmadtke was spotted at Deepdale Stadium on Monday.
The Reds defeated Darmstadt 3-1 with goals from Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz to bring their pre-season friendly schedule to an end with the Premier League season starting this weekend with a trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea.
The game was played at Deepdale Stadium and Schmadtke was spotted in the stadium parking lot at half-time, reports Liverpool Echo correspondent Ian Doyle.
He writes: “Liverpool sporting director Jorg Schmadtke was among the interested observers at Deepdale, taking his seat in the directors’ box shortly before kick-off.

“But the job never stops, particularly during the transfer window. And the German could be spotted at half-time in the car park outside the stadium, vape in one hand, mobile phone in the other.
“With the Reds in desperate need for a new defensive midfielder, Schmadtke clearly needs to make the most of every minute.”
If the German sporting director was putting in work to sign Lavia with reports that the player’s camp hopes to push a move through today, supporters may begin to feel calmer about the season ahead.
Sacha Tavolieri reports that the 19-year-old was not present at Southampton training today and has not been included in the team to face Gillingham in the FA Cup third round today.
The midfielder posted on Twitter this morning with the caption: “Good vibes this morning #keepgrinding.”
Liverpool fans are hoping this could mean he is close to a move to Anfield but time will tell.
