Tottenham target decides he wants to join Chelsea quickly
Chelsea have had a bid rejected for Montpellier forward Elye Wahi amid rumours of a Tottenham Hotspur hijack attempt.
Elye Wahi wants to join Chelsea as soon as possible after Montpellier rejected a bid from the Blues.
The Remarkable Rise of Aston Villa
That is according to French newspaper L’Equipe, who claim that Wahi has decided he wants to join Chelsea.
RMC Sport reported last week that Wahi wasn’t so keen on the move because he didn’t want to go out on loan to Strasbourg as part of the deal.
Maybe Wahi has changed his mind with some convincing from Chelsea, but he now wants the deal done ‘quickly’.
Chelsea need to come back with a new offer though as their initial approach of around €27.5million (£23.5million) has been rejected.
Montpellier have said no but are still open to selling Wahi as they seek a big cash windfall.
Atletico Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt are also keen on signing Wahi but Chelsea appear to be his destination of choice.
Tottenham hijack rumours don’t seem to be swaying Elye Wahi
Chelsea’s bid for Wahi has been rejected amid claims that there could be a hijack attempt on the cards.
French newspaper Midi Libre reported on Wednesday evening that Tottenham were expected to launch a bid within hours.
We did wonder whether this was a tactic to try and tempt Chelsea into paying up; they would hate to lose Wahi to a big London rival.
Tottenham are still clinging onto Harry Kane though and it would be a surprise for Spurs to move for a new forward right now.
Wahi excelled last season with 19 goals in 33 games for Montpellier, becoming one of the top talents in French football.
A summer exit was always on the cards for Wahi and maybe Tottenham really are showing an interest.
The 20-year-old’s priority seems to be Chelsea though and the Blues will now look to find an agreement with Montpellier.
