Liverpool hit roadblock with Al-Ittihad in talks to sell Fabinho
Liverpool have reportedly hit a roadblock with Al-Ittihad over Fabinho, with the two clubs locked in talks over the transfer fee for the proposed deal.
According to the Daily Mail, the Reds are now struggling to offload the Brazilian international despite Al-Ittihad making a £40m offer for Liverpool for Fabinho last week. However, talks over the fee are now causing the transfer to stall.
Fabinho wasn’t named in Liverpool’s pre-season squad ahead of their trips to Germany and Singapore, with many expecting the midfielder to be announced as a new Al-Ittihad player as early as this week. Yet as we now know, the transfer isn’t going as smoothly as first thought.
Lauded by Jurgen Klopp as an ‘outstanding’ player, Fabinho’s departure would allow Liverpool to spend big yet again on a new signing. But with Al-Ittihad now struggling to agree on a fee, there is now a genuine chance the transfer could collapse.
Moreover, Fabinho failing to make the move to Saudi Arabia could open the door for Jordan Henderson to make the move wide-open, a transfer that many Liverpool fans would agree is arguably more damaging than the 29-year-old departing for the Middle East.
Liverpool have to agree fee with Al-Ittihad for Fabinho soon
Fabinho’s departure has come out the blue. Yet in the grand scheme of things, the midfielder leaving Liverpool feels like yet another natural evolution for the Reds in the squad, which is why a deal has to be agreed with Al-Ittihad in the coming days.
Indeed, £40m is a huge sum for a midfielder who has arguably already passed his peak. And for Liverpool, offloading Fabinho could be massive in their bid to challenge for the title next season with another new face in the squad.
