Sky journalist has big transfer update for
It’s ‘all going off’ at Liverpool today, as the club reacts to a hectic few hours in the transfer market.
Liverpool supporters could be forgiven for their heads being in a spin after an unprecedented batch of stories emerged across Wednesday and Thursday. Firstly, news filtered through that Jordan Henderson could leave them for Saudi Arabia. Next, reports emerged that Fabinho could be set to follow him.
It’s all been a bit much for those of a Reds persuasion. And speaking via Football Daily, Sky journalist Melissa Reddy has given an update on where the club themselves are currently at with it all.
“Liverpool leave for pre-season camp on Saturday and it’s all going off at the moment,” Reddy reports. “They’re expecting Henderson to make a decision one way or another because they want these matters to be resolved quickly, But they’re also now priming for a bid from Saudi Arabia for Fabinho for around £40m.
“Liverpool say they can’t deal in hypothetical situations. So far no offer has materialised for Henderson, and there’s no offer for Fabinho on the table presented to them yet. So, they can’t really decide what they’re going to do until that happens.”

Giving her take on what Liverpool will be thinking right now, Reddy admitted that she can’t see both Henderson and Fabinho leaving.
“I can’t see them countenancing two experienced midfielders leaving at the same time without much preparation being done to get other experienced midfielders in,” says the journalist. “Also aligning to the fact that they’ve let James Milner go.
“There’s been a lot of exits and upheaval for Liverpool already. And while they did know it was going to be a summer of transition, I don’t think they were planning on ripping up the script on the standard-setters and the culture-bearers and losing so much of their core all in one go.”
Liverpool may not have planned for these two potential exits this summer. But they may not have much choice in accepting them.
Given his age and poor form last season, £40m for Fabinho sounds like an awfully good deal. In the midst of a rebuild, can the Reds really say no to such an offer?
And in Henderson’s case, if he really does want to go, they surely won’t stand in his way. He’ll rightfully have critics if he does end up taking this proposal, but the captain has given so much to Liverpool over the last 12 years. Jurgen Klopp wouldn’t keep Henderson against his will.
So, depending on how the next days go, we may have to start to expect that this will happen. A re-tooling was expected this summer, but this is something else. It’s upsetting, worrying and thrilling all at the same time.
