Sources: Liverpool to accept offers for two big names

Liverpool are set to sell two first-team stars before the summer window shuts, sources have told Football Insider.

The Merseysiders are planning to sign a midfielder and a centre-back, both for the first team, as they look to add to the marquee captures of Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister for a combined £95million plus add-ons.

Should Liverpool as expected complete those two key captures, with Southampton’s Romeo Lavia now their top target, then there will be some departures.

The most likely of these is Thiago Alcantara, who is the subject of strong interest from Saudi Arabia and will be allowed to go by Liverpool if he wants to.

But he won’t be the only big-name departure from Anfield before the window shuts at the start of September.

It is believed there will be another senior star exit as Liverpool look to create room on their wage bill for the new arrivals.

He attracted the attention of Liverpool with a string of impressive performances for Southampton in his debut Premier League campaign last season and sources say he is seen as a “beast” who can break up the play, close down the space in which opponents operate and lay the foundations for the team’s attacking play.

Football Insider revealed on Friday that Southampton star duo Lavia and James Ward-Prowse are “fully expected” to return to the Premier League with a move away from St Mary’s Stadium in this transfer window.

However, it is believed Liverpool are only currently willing to offer around £40million for Lavia as negotiations continue – while Southampton are believed to be holding out for a figure closer to £50million.

In other news, three clubs make moves to sign 20-year-old Liverpool will now let go.
