Liverpool have now told player’s agent they’ll sign him if asking price drops

Liverpool have reportedly told Romeo Lavia’s agents that they’ll move for the Southampton midfielder if his asking price is reduced.

According to journalist Ryan Taylor, the Reds are interested in signing the Belgian youngster. However, Liverpool won’t launch a bid for the 19-year-old unless the Saints lower what they’re asking for, with Lavia currently valued at £45m.

Liverpool are one of three Premier League clubs chasing the midfielder as Arsenal and Chelsea are also interested in the teenager. However, the Merseyside giants are now seemingly in the lead to sign Lavia, who could become the Reds’ third arrival of the window.

However, no move will be made unless the asking price is dropped, with Taylor saying: “As for Lavia, from what I understand Arsenal are reluctant to meet the £45m valuation set by Southampton. And at the same time, the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea and there has been talk of United but I don’t know much on United’s interest.

“But I definitely know that Chelsea and Liverpool are interested and what they’ve told the player representatives is that if the asking price is lower that they would be potentially ready to sort of formalise their interest.”

Liverpool might have to bite the bullet on Lavia’s asking price

Lavia’s asking price of £45m is hardly a surprise given how good the midfielder was for Southampton last season and his tender age of just 19. And for Liverpool, they might have to bite the bullet and pay up what the Saints are demanding for their midfield wonderkid this summer.

After all, £45m for a midfielder who has just played an entire season of Premier League football seems about right in the current financial climate of the division, and with Liverpool having the cash to spend, Southampton are aware that they can get exactly what they want for Lavia this summer if they stick to their guns.
