Liverpool has already signed Alexis Mac Allister and is now seeking more reinforcements to reshape Jürgen Klopp’s squad ahead of the new season, with the Reds knowing that more summer signings are vital.

It emerged yesterday via The Athletic that RB Leipzig playmaker Dominik Szoboszlai is among the options being looked at and he would be the perfect fit for playing the right-sided central midfield role at Anfield.

Excellent in and out of possession, Szoboszlai scored 10 times last season from midfield while also providing a further 13 assists. At 22, he is ready to take the next step in his career and has a release clause worth $77m (£61m/€70m).

Race for Dominik Szoboszlai could be one that ‘drags on’ as Newcastle consider next move

With Mac Allister — signed for just $44m (£35m/€41m) according to Fabrizio Romano — offering progression through passing and incisive play around the penalty area, and Szoboszlai similarly creative, Liverpool would have quality on both sides feeding its front line of Mohamed Salah, Luis Díaz and the rest.

The addition of someone like Szoboszlai should help Fabinho too, with the Brazilian holding midfielder, brought in from AS Monaco for $49m (£39m/€45m) in 2018, looking a little jaded last season. He was reinvigorated when given more support from Trent Alexander-Arnold in the center and would be even more so with the extra energy and legs that Szoboszlai would bring.

That midfield would instantly turn Liverpool’s big weakness for much of last season into a strength, though an addition at center-back this summer would be a useful thing to get sorted out as well. Indeed, the Reds are looking for left-sided options.

Spanish outlet AS reports that Gonçalo Inácio is being chased by Liverpool and that the Reds will make a move for the Sporting 21-year-old defender this summer, though Newcastle United and Arsenal are also mentioned as possible destinations.

He has a release clause of $49m (£39m/€45m) and it is said that Sporting will only let him leave for the full amount, though that would be within range for Liverpool. While he would not instantly come into the starting XI, there would be plenty of chances for Inácio.

essentially needs to find another version of Ibrahima Konaté this summer but for the left side of its defense, and Inácio would seemingly fit the bill.

Potential Liverpool starting XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konaté, Van Dijk, Robertson; Szoboszlai, Fabinho, Mac Allister; Salah, Gakpo, Díaz

Substitutes/others: Kelleher, Inácio, Gomez, Matip, Tsimikas, Jones, Elliott, Henderson, Thiago, Bajčetić, Núñez, Jota (plus young players who will be involved, including Ben Doak)
