Liverpool met this week with Dominik Szoboszlai’s representatives as they advance their plans to sign the Hungarian.
The 22-year-old is highly rated and has been developing at a rapid rate in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig.
Fabio Carvalho is set to join the German outfit on loan for the 2023/24 season. While this transfer between the two clubs will not bring Szoboszlai’s fee down, it certainly strengthens relations between the two clubs even further.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that a meeting took place this week between Liverpool and the attacking midfielder’s representatives.
The contract between Szoboszlai and Leipzig runs until June 2026 and reportedly contains a €70million release clause.

Ornstein notes that there are conflicting reports on when this release clause expires but adds that Leipzig will still expect a massive fee for his services.
Liverpool have long since lacked a midfielder that is able to score and assist in central areas. The last such player to have operated at Anfield was Philippe Coutinho.
Last season, Szoboszlai scored 10 goals and assisted a further 13. He’s a double threat and has proven his talent in the Champions League.
For Liverpool, he represents a bonafide game-changer should he join the club. Newcastle are also interested and agree, along with the Reds, that the €70M release clause is exorbitant.
However, with the fees regularly demanded for young players in the modern game, it’s pretty close to what Szoboszlai’s market value is.
