Liverpool prepare £68m offer for European ace as Klopp looks to blow Premier League rivals out of the water

Liverpool are further looking to strengthen their midfield this summer and they are stepping up their interest in one of Europe’s top talents.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have made a solid start to the summer transfer window with the capture of Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister.

The Argentine midfielder will bring more goals to Klopp’s side next season and will give them a different dynamic in the middle.

Along with Mac Allister, Klopp is also keen on signing another midfielder who will be able to complement the 24-year-old.

Plenty of Premier League clubs have registered an interest in Nicolo Barella and Liverpool are said to be stepping up their interest.

Newcastle had been heavily linked with the Inter midfielder, but they have instead gone for AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali.

Eddie Howe’s side weren’t prepared to pay Inter’s asking price for Barella. With this being the case, the door could now be open for Liverpool.

According to Il Tempo, Liverpool are prepared to offer £68m to sign the Italian. Simone Inzaghi is currently weighing up the situation and is said to be seeking Barella’s replacement.

The 26-year-old is contracted with Inter until 2026. He has been a mainstay in the Inter side over the past four seasons and is highly rated across Europe.

During 2022-23, the midfielder featured in 35 league matches and provided six goals and six assists. He also offers a great deal off the ball, winning 1.4 tackles per game.

Man Utd are also interested

Along with Liverpool, Man Utd also hold an interest in the midfielder. Erik ten Hag’s side are currently focused on a deal for Mason Mount, but Barella is also on their radar.

Liverpool and Man Utd are certainly no strangers to going up against one another in the transfer window. As Man Utd are currently focused on other deals, this could be the perfect time for Liverpool to pounce.

Fabrizio Romano recently clarified Liverpool’s interest in the Italian. However, he did state that Liverpool still have some reservations over the transfer.

“Liverpool appreciate Nicolo Barella but they are not sure if the Inter midfielder is the kind of player they need. We will see in the next days and weeks,” Romano confirmed.

Along with strengthening their midfield, Liverpool are also looking to improve their defensive options this summer.

The Reds have been linked with Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba and Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven.

Liverpool conceded 47 goals last season, which was 21 more than they did in the previous campaign. Addressing this area will be crucial for Klopp and his side this summer.

Provided they do get their primary transfer targets over the line, there is no reason why the Reds can’t be challenging at the top of the Premier League next season.
