Aston Villa hold an interest in Villarreal midfielder Alex Baena, but he won’t come cheap this summer.
The 21-year-old committed his future to the Yellows by penning a deal until 2028 in January, which removed the €25 million release clause included in his previous contract. His new buy-out price is said to be north of £50 million and he has interest from clubs across Europe, including Barcelona, but it is unclear at this stage whether Villa would consider a move for him this summer.
Baena made his first-team debut for Villarreal in July 2020, but needed a loan move to Girona in 2021/22 to adapt to first-team football as he was still a teenager at the time Emery started to work with him. He played 38 times for Girona in La Liga 2, making assists and scoring five times as the club secured promotion back to the top-flight of Spanish football.
