Virgil van Dijk can’t get over how good 20-year-old Liverpool player actually is

Virgil van Dijk has lauded Jarrell Quansah after the defender’s performance for Liverpool against Wolves on Saturday.

Speaking to the press via the club’s official website, the Dutch international was full of praise for his new defensive teammate, with Quansah stepping in for Van Dijk during his Premier League suspension.

Quansah is expected to start tonight for Liverpool against LASK, and many pundits and teammates, now including Van Dijk, are excited to see where the defender can go from here.

The Liverpool captain said: “Well, particularly on the weekend, he was outstanding in my opinion. To play away at Wolves, difficult game, but I think for the amount of time he played he was outstanding.

“For him to stay cool-headed, do the job, he was very solid, someone you could build in that game and it was great to see. I was very proud and pleased for him. He should just see it as a start – but it’s a very good start.

“He has to keep going, keep working, keep learning, but he is at a great club, a great environment and a great team in my opinion, so just keep going. Hopefully he will be very important both now and in the future for the club.”

Quansah has emerged as one of Liverpool’s most exciting talents since being thrown into the senior squad at the start of this season, with the 20-year-old set for a key role with the Reds this campaign.

And Van Dijk has to ensure that he is a mentor to Quansah, with the Dutchman easily the best player the England youth international can learn from in his time at Anfield.

Indeed, Van Dijk knows that Quansah could one day replace him in the starting XI, and the Liverpool captain has to ensure that the youngster is as good as he can be when the time comes to feature for the Reds.
