Cowboys news: Dallas beats Washington 38-10, clinching NFC East title, 2nd seed
The 2023 Dallas Cowboys are officially division champs.
Tony Pollard made a huge impact on the next offensive possession.

He had four carries for 31 yards on the drive and ended it with a 1-yard run. Giving the lead back to Dallas at 14-10.

Donovan Wilson picked off Sam Howell with less than two minutes to go in the first half.
Doing so gave the Cowboys a chance to put the hammer down on Washington.
A beautiful offensive drive at the end of the half was capped off by a Prescott touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb.
The Cowboys took a 21-10 lead into the break.
The Cowboys would get the 2 seed and the NFC East title with a win, yet the Eagles pretty much gave that to Dallas in the first half against the Giants.

It is a good time to be a Cowboys fan.
It took the Cowboys a few drives to right the ship and re-take the lead as the second quarter wound down. They hit the coveted double-double with touchdown drives on either side of the half, and a Peyton Hendershot punt block helped Prescott & Co. open a 25-point lead (with his fourth scoring pass of the day and his 36th touchdown throw of the season, probably enough to finish as the league leader) before finally pulling the starters in the final quarter.
The win didn’t come without a cost, as cornerback Stephon Gilmore exited early with a shoulder injury and did not return. While the extent of the injury remains to be revealed, it’s sure to be a major concern with as the playoffs get underway.
The Cowboys will have the week to determine how injuries to Gilmore and Tyler Smith (not to mention Zack Martin’s last illness) might impact their postseason prep. But for now, America’s Team can relish an NFC East crown, the No. 2 seed in the conference, and an unmatched third straight 12-win season, all thanks to a commanding win over their longtime rivals.

A quick summary of how this division-clinching matchup went down.
First Quarter
After the Dallas defense stopped the Commanders on fourth-and-1 at the Cowboys’ 31-yard line, Prescott and the offense wasted no time in reaching the end zone on their first possession. The quarterback completed all six of his pass attempts in the series, the last of which was a 3-yard loft to Jalen Tolbert in the end zone for the game’s first points.
And when the Commanders’ next snap saw cornerback Jourdan Lewis strip the ball from the hands of running back Brian Robinson and recover the fumble himself, the Cowboys were back in business at the Washington 31-yard line.
But Dallas couldn’t get any closer than the 14 before bringing out Brandon Aubrey for a 32-yard field goal attempt. Instead, his kick was blocked and then picked up by Jace Whittaker, who returned the ball 66 yards to the Cowboys’ 20-yard line.
The block was the first failed field-goal attempt for Aubrey this season, snapping his NFL record 35 consecutive field goals made to start a career.
