Sky Sports journalist shares what he’s been told about Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes after Tottenham links

Tottenham have been very busy in this summer transfer window, making numerous big-money signings.

The north London club have spent over £100m to sign the likes of Dominic Solanke, Archie Gray and Wilson Odobert, but their business may not be done just yet.

Indeed, Tottenham are apparently also interested in signing an energetic midfield player, and Joao Gomes has been linked with Spurs recently.

Speaking on Last Word on Spurs, Dharmesh Sheth has been discussing Spurs’ recent links to Joao Gomes, and he says that he’s been told the Brazilian will only leave Wolves if an offer of £80m comes in.

The journalist shared an update on the Wolves star.

“I have read those reports as well (about Joao Gomes). The information I was getting from the Wolves end is that there has been no approach from any club, there’s been no formal offer and you mention £50m, I was told it would take closer to £80m for them to consider the sale of Joao Gomes,” Sheth said.

Wolves can’t afford to sell Joao Gomes

Wolves will only accept a huge offer for Joao Gomes, and that is the right stance to take in this situation.

Wolves’ squad has already been decimated this summer as both Max Kilman and Pedro Neto have left the club.

That is two very important players who have already departed.

Gomes is arguably Wolves’ best player at this point, and they simply cannot sell him with just over a week to go in the transfer window.

Gomes to Tottenham is a rumour that is easy to get excited about, but unfortunately for Spurs, it doesn’t look as though this move is going to go ahead.

Tottenham may have to look elsewhere if they want to sign a new midfield player before the end of the transfer window, because Gomes isn’t for sale.
