Over the past decade, there have been many ups and downs for every NBA team. X user @OTownNBA compiled a list of the biggest mistakes around the league since 2013 in the graphic below. For the Chicago Bulls, the Nikola Vucevic trade tops the list.
Vucevic landing in the Windy City at the 2021 NBA trade deadline brought anticipation, promising a new era for the Bulls. However, hindsight casts a critical light, deeming this trade as the franchise’s most pivotal misstep since 2013.
The Bulls sought Vucevic’s All-Star caliber talent, aiming to bolster their roster and fortify their playoff prospects. However, the trade not only cost them Wendell Carter Jr. and multiple future draft picks but also failed to deliver the anticipated impact on the team’s performance.
Vucevic’s arrival was meant to cement the Bulls as a formidable force, pairing him with athletic guard Zach LaVine. Yet, the team’s underwhelming performance since the trade paints a stark picture.
The anticipated chemistry between the Bulls core of Vucevic, LaVine, and DeMar DeRozan never fully materialized on the court. Seemingly every night, at least one of Chicago’s core players isn’t firing on all cylinders. As a result, the Bulls found themselves struggling to carve a cohesive game plan on both ends of the floor.
One of the core issues lies in the team’s defensive play. Vucevic’s arrival didn’t provide or allow the addition of a defensive anchor the Bulls desperately needed. While his offensive prowess is undeniable — he averaged over a double-double last year — the trade created an imbalance in the team’s dynamics.
The impact of the draft picks the Bulls sacrificed to acquire Vucevic magnifies the misstep, likely hindering the team’s future outlook. Chicago now lacks young, robust defensive talent that the Orlando Magic were able to land in Wendell Carter Jr. and Franz Wagner.
The Bulls’ decision to trade for Nikola Vucevic might go down in history as a watershed moment, where ambition overshadowed prudence, leading to a seismic setback for a team striving to reclaim former glory.

Harden was limited to 14 points, five rebounds and three assists in 29 minutes of action on Friday night after being absolutely destroyed by one broadcaster prior to tip.

Bill Self has been the head coach of the Kansas Jayhawks for more than 20 seasons. He’s been a college basketball head coach since 1993, and his coaching career technically goes all the way back to 1985, when he was on Larry Brown’s coaching staff at Kansas as an assistant. That’s a long time to be a coach, and Self’s run with Kansas, specifically, has been legendary. He’s won two national championships, both with the Jayhawks.
In fact, his top-ranked Kansas team is only two seasons removed from winning it all. Self has been such a legend for KU that the university recently gave him a full-time contract that made him the highest-paid coach in college basketball. He’ll make more than $13 million this season and $53 million over the next five seasons.
For what it’s worth, he told the media on Thursday that he’s not sure how many more seasons he has left in him as a coach. “Yeah, I think I’m just getting started,” Self said when asked about the status of his long career, via On3, which apparently elicited a laugh. “Hell no. I’m not only on the back nine, I’m on the back three or four.” Although he doesn’t think he’s got another decade left in the tank, it is worth noting that “the back three or four” could still net the Jayhawks quite a few more good seasons. “Could I do it or another 23 years? No, nor would I want to.
But could I do it for several more? Absolutely,” Self said. “But I don’t have a time frame on when the end is, but I’d say closer to two-thirds than one-third.” Kansas kicked off its regular season earlier this week with a 99-56 over North Carolina Central.

Cowboys’ Dak Prescott Leads Entire NFL In One Huge Stat
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott may have his fair share of detractors, but there really is no doubting that he is a good signal-caller. As a matter of fact, Prescott leads all NFL quarterbacks in passer rating on third and fourth downs, per Pro Football Focus. That’s certainly an impressive stat and helps dispel the notion that Prescott always comes up short in crucial situations. Prescott is coming off of one of his best performances of the season last week, as he went 29-for-44 with 374 yards and three touchdowns in a close loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
On the season overall, Prescott has thrown for 2,011 yards, 13 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 70.2 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 100.7.
The 30-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Mississippi State, was selected by the Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Due to an injury to Tony Romo, Prescott immediately stepped in as Dallas’ starting quarterback and was very impressive, leading his team to 13 wins and an NFC East division title during his rookie campaign. He also made the Pro Bowl after totaling 3,667 yards, 22 touchdowns and four picks.
Initially, many felt Prescott would be nothing more than a good game manager, but he morphed into one of the better passers in football. He made another trip to the Pro Bowl in 2018, and in 2019, he threw for 4,902 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Prescott’s best season, however, probably came in 2021, when he registered 4,449 yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 picks while completing 68.8 percent of his throws and recording a passer rating of 104.2. Last year, Dak Prescott took a big step back, leading the NFL with 15 interceptions in just 12 games, but he has rebounded in 2023. The Cowboys are 5-3 and sit two-and-a-half games behind the Philadelphia Eagles for first place in the NFC East. They will take on the New York Giants this Sunday.

Flames defenseman requests trade
ESPN’s Kevin Weekes is reporting that Calgary Flames defenseman Nikita Zadorov has requested a trade to another team. TSN Insider Pierre LeBrun also tweeted about the situation, adding that Zadorov’s agent Dan Milstein is hoping for a quick resolution.
The news of the request came out after the Flames’ 5-4 overtime loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs last night, a game in which Zadorov had a goal and a huge hit in the third period. Calgary has had a disastrous start to the season at 4-7-2 and is feeling like a team that will see a lot of changes in the next 12 months.
Zadorov is a pending unrestricted free agent, as are his teammates Noah Hanifin, Elias Lindholm, Chris Tanev, and Oliver Kylington. For his part, Zadorov has had a good start to the season with a goal and four assists in 12 games. The 6-foot-6 rearguard has been able to help the Flames drive play while averaging two hits a game.
The 28-year-old is averaging over 18 minutes of ice time a game this year which is right in line with his career average. Any team that acquires the native of Moscow, Russia would be getting a big hulking defenseman who can provide physicality, block shots, kill penalties and chip in a bit offensively.
On the topic of acquiring teams, NHL Insider Chris Johnston is reporting that Zadorov would welcome a trade to Toronto. The Maple Leafs could certainly use the skillset that Zadorov would bring, however, he is in the final year of a two-year $7.5M contract that carries a cap hit of $3.75M.
This would require the Flames to retain half of Zadorov’s cap hit and for Toronto to find a way to maneuver other money off their books. In fact, given that over half of the NHL is within a million dollars of the salary cap ceiling, the Flames will likely have to take some salary back to facilitate a move.
The Flames will be engaging with as many teams as possible in the coming days, so it’s hard to speculate where Zadorov could end up. Calgary could be in for a lot of trade talks in the coming weeks with Zadorov being the first domino to fall for the Flames.
