Finance expert questions ‘amazing coincidence’ after latest Everton PSR ruling

It has been a whirlwind start to the week for Everton, who kickstarted their ‘winter break’ by learning of the Premier League’s intention to punish them yet again.

Having been dealt the harshest points deduction in the history of the top flight back in November, it seems that was not enough for the division seeking to showcase its strength against any financial misconduct.

Now, they are out to cause more pain through another sanction, despite Alan Myers attesting that double jeopardy could come into play.

Well, it is now finance expert Kieran Maguire who has sought to have his say, with the podcaster having seemingly uncovered a conspiracy within the Premier League.

It has been well-documented that, whilst the government has lobbied for the Premier League to come under the control of an independent regulator, CEO Richard Masters remains against the idea.

Such an action would likely balance out the ridiculous and ever-growing finances of the English game, but in turn take those profits out of the pockets of these businessmen.

That clearly cannot be allowed to happen, and Everton’s November ruling was largely chalked down to a desperate attempt to prove why the Premier League can run itself.

Well, the timing of this latest ruling is borderline laughable given Masters’ imminent appearance at parliament, as Maguire reacted on X: ‘What an amazing coincidence. Just like the Premier League charging Manchester City with 115 charges last year 24 hours before DCMS were due to publish a report recommending an Independent Regulator.’

What’s next for Everton?
Well, in all honesty, this latest outcome means little for Sean Dyche and his men, instead making life a lot harder for Everton’s lawyers and those employed to defend their position.

Tomorrow marks a huge opportunity to progress in the FA Cup as they welcome Crystal Palace in their replay, knowing a win would see them face the winner of Luton Town or Bolton Wanderers at home in the next round.

Having been dumped out of the EFL Cup by Fulham in disappointing fashion, surely the Toffees will have eyes on going deep in one of England’s, and the world’s most historic competitions.

However, following that, they will enjoy the bulk of their winter break, with their next Premier League match then not until the 30th of January.

This will give the players ample time to rest, and those behind the scenes a quieter opportunity to battle court cases and appeals without the hubbub of a matchday.

Having appealed their November points deduction, an outcome on that ruling is expected by the end of February.
