Tim Sherwood believes no Tottenham players would get into the Arsenal team

Tim Sherwood believes zero Tottenham Hotspur players would make Arsenal’s best starting line-up. Aside from Harry Kane, that may have been an easier sell last season, with Spurs failing to qualify for Europe and the Gunners tussling with Manchester City for the title. However, Tottenham fans are quietly confident about their chances this year under Ange Postecoglou.
The former Celtic boss is enjoying a fine start to the campaign, winning three of his opening four games. Drawing the other fixture puts Spurs in second place – ahead of bitter rivals Arsenal on goal difference.
While the season is a marathon, not a sprint, a fact Arsenal fans know all too well, a sense of optimism also grows in the red half of north London. Few expected the Gunners to repeat another Premier League charge, pointing towards the lack of depth within the squad.
But Mikel Arteta bolstered his ranks over the summer and Arsenal now appear in good stead to compete on all four fronts. Voices claiming last season was “now or never” for the Gunners have been silenced as most view them as City’s biggest title threat.
Arsenal’s improvements in recent years now has Spurs loyalists admitting the gap between the two clubs is stark. Speaking on the Tippy Tappy Football podcast, former manager Sherwood claimed not even summer arrival James Maddison would get into the Gunners’ team.
“At the moment, there’s no one standing out to me who gets into the team,” he said. “Vicario, I don’t know because I don’t know enough about him, he has started off very well.
“I was thinking Son, but who do you leave out? Saka? Martinelli? Odegaard has to be in the team, he goes in where Maddison would go in. We’ve seen Maddison have these spells at Leicester.
“He has better players around him now, so hopefully he can continue playing on a regular basis like he is and then he will have a chance. But I’m not sure where I’d fit him in at this moment because Odegaard has to be in before him.”
