With a broken left hand, Jake DeBrusk missed the most of the season’s second half of play.
In an attempt to play through the ailment, the Bruins forward has been hiding it. He acknowledged, however, that he hadn’t been at full strength following Friday’s season-ending loss to the Florida Panthers.
DeBrusk sustained the injury just before the Bruins defeated Philadelphia on January 27. Although he was unable to play in that game, the Bruins’ bye week allowed him to feel secure enough to play. February saw him score just one goal, but March saw him score five of his 19 goals, suggesting that he was becoming stronger.
“I had some injuries to contend with. Just before bye week, I broke my hand. It most likely didn’t recover until a week after the playoffs ended, he claimed. It was annoying to be so constrained. I attempted to continue playing. I hope to contribute to the squad in a variety of ways, such as penalty killing and other things. I anticipated enjoying a successful postseason.
With three goals and eight assists in the postseason, DeBrusk led the Bruins with 11 points. In Friday’s 2-1 setback, he set up Pavel Zacha for the Bruins’ lone goal with a no-look backhand cross-ice pass.
Following the season, the 27-year-old will become a free agent without restrictions for the first time. However, he refrained from discussing his post-game plans.
