‘Just like James Maddison’: Ian Wright thinks Tottenham about to sign ‘very exciting’ player
Ian Wright has backed Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur to sign Nottingham Forest forward, Brennan Johnson.
The Arsenal legend says that Brennan Johnson would be the ‘perfect’ player for Tottenham and he is someone who is ‘very exciting’, just like their thriving summer signing, James Maddison.
Transfer deadline day is approaching, with Wright stating that if Johnson leaves Nottingham Forest for Spurs, then it could result in the new-look team becoming ‘very, very dangerous’, as he told Premier League Productions (28/08/23 at 2:40 pm).
Tottenham’s forward line has only scored two Premier League goals between them during the early stages of the new season, with Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski netting during the win at Bournemouth on Saturday – Peter Schmeichel has been left shocked by the Englishman.
Meanwhile, someone like Richarlison continues to struggle, with Spurs keen on boosting their forward line amid claims that they will push for Johnson heading into transfer deadline day on Friday.
Nonetheless, Wright was pretty clear and he thinks Johnson should secure a transfer to Spurs.
“I have seen them linked with Brennan Johnson,” said Wright. “That midfield, with Bissouma, Sarr, Bentancur and Maddison, in and around there, then with Richarlison up front.
“If you can get a Brennan Johnson – then you are looking at a Tottenham team that’s starting to cause a lot of problems.
“If they can bring in another winger like a Brennan Johnson, who is very exciting. He would a perfect Tottenham player. I could totally see it, just like I see it with Maddison, then I would start to see the Tottenham, in their final form, look very, very dangerous.”
What about Tottenham’s defence?
A player like Johnson is someone that Postecoglou would think he can take to higher levels and he is someone that would add extra spark to their forward line.
But it’s the defence that needs improving also, the starting backline looks very good and the new boys have made changes.
But what about the back-up options? Someone like Eric Dier can’t even make the matchday squad, so isn’t it best if he is moved on so they can reinvest in somebody else?
