Reporter claims Leeds United now want to sign £19m Tottenham player

Tottenham Hotspur right back Djed Spence is receiving interest from Bristol City, Swansea City and Leeds United ahead of the transfer deadline.

Djed Spence is available this summer with Tottenham Hotspur happy to let the right back move on.

That is according to CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs, who has been speaking to Last Word on Spurs.

It’s just over a year since Tottenham swooped to sign Spence from Middlesbrough in a £19million move.

Spence dazzled on loan at Nottingham Forest, helping them win promotion to the Premier League.

Tottenham saw big potential in Spence and decided to bring him to North London but the move really hasn’t worked.

Spence played just five minutes of Premier League action for Spurs before spending the second half of the season on loan at Rennes.

The 23-year-old isn’t wanted by Ange Postecoglou but finding somebody to buy him is proving difficult.

Jacobs claims that most of the interest in Spence right now is surrounding loan deals even if Tottenham would happily sell.

Jacobs adds that French side Strasbourg may be tempted to sign Spence and are internally discussing a move.

It was also stated that three Championship clubs have enquired into signing Spence, with Leeds United joining Bristol City and Swansea City in the race.

“The only interest, to date, in his services is for loans and I think that he would need to drop down to the Championship as well,” said Jacobs. “There might be some late interest from other Ligue 1 clubs and I would keep an eye on Strasbourg, who are now controlled by BlueCo, who are the owners of Chelsea.”

“Keep an eye on that but again, that’s only being discussed internally at Strasbourg at the moment, they’ve not moved. As far as the Championship enquiries are concerned, my understanding is that they are for loans and there are three clubs that I would keep an eye on over the course of the next week if Tottenham decide to loan and Spence decides to drop down, and those three clubs are Swansea City, Bristol City and Leeds United,” he added.

Djed Spence could be Leeds United’s alternative to Max Aarons
Leeds’ right back situation has been a little strange.

Rasmus Kristensen has moved on to Roma whilst Cody Drameh is back at Elland Road after a loan spell at Luton Town.

Luke Ayling is still at the club and Sam Byram has been handed a contract after a trial spell over the summer.

Leeds still wanted to add another right back and had a deal in place for Max Aarons earlier this month.

A deal worth up to £12million was agreed with Norwich City as Daniel Farke chased a reunion with his former Canaries ace.

The deal was hijacked at the last minute though as Bournemouth swooped in and brought Aarons to the South Coast.

That may leave Leeds looking for another right back option and Spence would certainly fit the bill.

Spence has excelled in the Championship before and he can provide real attacking ability up the right flank.

This may depend on Drameh leaving Leeds in the coming days but the Whites appear to be a potential destination for Spence with his Spurs career in tatters.
