In a recent edition of the Here We Go podcast, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano stated that Arsenal have identified Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte as a target for the summer transfer period. It is understood that the Gunners are hoping to land the Spanish centre-back this month.

Laporte’s Decent Campaign At The Etihad Stadium

Laporte served as a valuable presence in Man City’s squad in the previous campaign when he managed to put in a few solid displays for them on the defensive third of the pitch. The Spanish central defender participated in 24 matches for the Mancunian club last season, picking up one assist across all competitions.

The Agen-born talent was a decent performer when defending inside his half based on his average of 0.9 tackles and 2.5 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from the back after making 93.1% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current deal at the Mancunian club will run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, the Gunners will have to make a big offer if they want to recruit Laporte this month

He is a good passer of the ball as well and can use his robust 1.89m frame to dominate the opposition in the air. The Spanish sensation is primarily a central defender but can also function as a left-back if told to do so.

Laporte would be a great choice for the Gunners to consider before the end of this month. He is good enough to rival Gabriel and William Saliba for a regular starting spot at the North London club this season. The Spaniard would even soften the blow left by Jurrien Timber’s recent injury.
