Hill Dickinson Stadium architect reveals the ‘one thing’ he couldn’t do at Everton’s new ground
The Hill Dickinson Stadium is a thing of beauty, but the architect for Everton’s new ground wanted to do something special.
Everton’s new stadium has got plenty of plaudits now that it’s right into the thick of things in the Premier League.

It’s brilliant to see the atmosphere beginning to build, as the spirit of Goodison Park is living on.
But there was one thing that didn’t get done, which architect Dan Meis missed out on, and it seems to have haunted him.

During the Aston Villa game, there was a familiar face as Farhad Moshiri was pleased with the new stadium.
The former owner helped with plans for the ground, as Meis took the reigns of designing the Hill Dickinson stadium.
Speaking to the Men In Blazers podcast, the American architect spoke on the ideas of the stunning ground, and claimed there was one thing he wished he could have done.
“The one thing that I really wanted to do that we weren’t able to do was I wanted to take the Archie Leitch trust and put it in the building,” Meis said
“We thought Goodison would be taken down – So I wanted to preserve that trust and put it across the face of the long bar on the South Stand.”
Leitch was Goodison’s designer, so it would have been great to pay homage to a man who played an integral part in the club’s history.
Meis designed the stadium for a great atmosphere, but unfortunately he couldn’t complete every wish.
So far, the Toffees have taken kindly to the stadium, as the Hill Dickinson has an unbeaten record following its opening games.

Staying unbeaten this season will be the key, but so far they’ve yet to concede at home as well, so that’s something else to hold onto.
Tim Sherwood praised Everton’s atmosphere, as there seems to be a feel-good factor beginning to take place about the stadium, which is only three games old.
It’s strong early signs, and now the goal is not to see a defeat for the entire campaign, which David Moyes will ensure happens to the best of his side’s ability.
