Former Everton manager being considered to replace Nuno Espirito Santo at Nottingham Forest

A former Everton manager is now in the running to become the next Nottingham Forest manager after Nuno Espirito Santo’s shock departure.

David Moyes knows all too well how volatile a manager’s position can become in such a short space of time.

Having won the Europa Conference League at West Ham United, the 62-year-old left his role in London just months later.

Moyes has been scouting out Everton’s opposition ahead of the weekend, on the back of an impressive start to the season.

It has been a positive return to Everton for Moyes, but the news from the City Ground will have taken all managers by surprise.

Just months after securing Forest a shock return to European football, Espirito Santo now finds himself sacked before the Europa League campaign even begins.

And one former Everton boss is already being eyed up for the job.

Moyes has been delighted with his new signings at Everton, having been backed by the new owners on Merseyside.

The same cannot be said at Forest, with Espirito Santo and Evangelos Marinakis publicly falling out in recent weeks.

On Monday evening, this led to the Portuguese manager departing his role, and Sky Sports have shared a list of potential successors.

Included in those is former Everton boss Marco Silva.

In recent months, Silva was also strongly linked with Tottenham Hotspur following Ange Postecoglou’s sacking over the summer.

Silva remains a man in demand, with the lure of European football set to test his loyalty to Fulham.

Earlier this summer, Silva spoiled Everton’s pursuit of Kenny Tete, after the 48-year-old persuaded the right-back to remain at Craven Cottage.

Gary Lineker has hailed Silva for the work he has done since leaving Everton and joining Fulham.

The Cottagers have shown some solid campaigns under the Portuguese boss since he made the move down to London.

However, Lineker is not the only one who has praised Silva, with Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola also singing his praises over the years.

“I know this manager from when he was in Greece,” Guardiola told the media a number of years ago.

“He is making an outstanding job.”

Whether Silva would be willing to work under an owner like Marinakis remains to be seen, though.

It certainly did not work out for Espirito Santo.
