Philippe Coutinho’s Departure from Aston Villa: A Necessary Move for All Parties.
Dan Bardell believes Aston Villa should terminate Philippe Coutinho’s contract this summer, suggesting it would benefit everyone involved after the club’s qualification for the Champions League.
According to a talkSPORT report from 13 June, Aston Villa is in talks to cancel Coutinho’s contract, which has two years remaining.
Coutinho joined Villa Park permanently in the summer of 2022 following a successful six-month loan under Steven Gerrard.
However, since Unai Emery took over as manager, Coutinho has scored just one goal and has struggled to make an impact.
Bardell, a journalist for Sky Sports and talkSPORT, recommended ending Coutinho’s contract early for the benefit of all parties.
In an exclusive interview with Villa News, Bardell stated, “The club needs to take action. He’s not going to play for Aston Villa again. He’s on very high wages and unfortunately doesn’t have the durability or level required to represent Villa in the Premier League and Champions League.
Since they won’t be able to get a fee for him, it’s sensible to come to an agreement and terminate his contract.”
“It’s unfortunate because I believe he always gave his best and wanted to succeed at Villa, but it just hasn’t worked out. It’s best for everyone if they part ways.”
Philippe Coutinho Set for Aston Villa Departure
Coutinho’s signing generated a lot of excitement, with few arrivals matching the enthusiasm of his initial loan. Following the departure of Jack Grealish earlier that summer, Villa needed a boost, which they found in the Brazilian playmaker.
He made an immediate impact, scoring and assisting on his debut against Manchester United at Villa Park after trailing 2-0. Coutinho delivered an incredible performance against Leeds United, one of the most memorable individual displays by a Villa player in recent times.
However, since his loan spell, injuries and a lack of form have limited his contributions. Now that Villa is in the Champions League and competing at the top of the Premier League, there’s no longer a suitable role for him.
Coutinho is likely to return to Brazil in a move that benefits all parties as they prepare for the new season.
