“Potential Billionaire Buyers Emerge for West Ham as Takeover Timeline Unveiled by Agent”
Kretinsky has the option to acquire a controlling stake in West Ham as part of his agreement with the GSB regime from November 2021. However, the Czech billionaire has stated he has no plans to take full control, though he might increase his shares while staying a minority investor.
Meanwhile, club CEO Karren Brady has made two trips to the Middle East to seek additional investment for West Ham. However, a solution might be found closer to home.
Everton’s owner Farhad Moshiri is seeking new takeover bids after 777 Partners’ attempt to buy the club fell through. He has received pitches from nine groups so far.
The frontrunners for an Everton takeover are MSP Sports Capital, led by Evertonian investors Andy Bell and George Downing, and another group headed by lawyer-turned-entrepreneur Vatche Manoukian. However, only one group will succeed, leaving many investors eager to enter the Premier League market disappointed.
There is also a takeover opportunity at West Ham. Both Everton and West Ham have similar profiles: historic clubs with large fanbases, playing (or soon to play, in Everton’s case) in large, modern stadiums, and capable of attracting quality players. The key difference lies in their debt levels. West Ham’s debt is around £56m, mostly in a revolving credit facility, while Everton’s debt is much higher due to their stadium construction and cash flow issues, reducing the asking price Moshiri can expect.
Although an investor might pay a higher headline sum for West Ham—likely between £600m and £700m—the financial commitment at both clubs would be similar. West Ham’s location in London also adds appeal due to commercial and tourism opportunities.
According to respected agent and consultant Jon Smith, West Ham supporters can expect a takeover within the next 36 months. While Kretinsky could theoretically take over overnight, his current business interests suggest his focus is elsewhere.
