“Newcastle United Bids for ‘Unplayable’ Winger Praised by Pep Guardiola as ‘Exceptional'”
Newcastle United have reportedly submitted a bid to sign an ‘unplayable’ winger once described as ‘exceptional’ by Pep Guardiola.
The Tyneside club aims to return to European competition next season after finishing seventh and missing out last term. Eddie Howe’s team was on track for the Europa Conference League, but Manchester United’s FA Cup win and subsequent Europa League qualification bumped them out.
Howe is now under pressure to break back into the top six, necessitating strong summer signings. Reportedly, Newcastle is attempting to sign a former Manchester City winger.
Newcastle United Bids for Barcelona Winger Ferran Torres
According to Jigantes, Newcastle United has placed a bid to acquire Barcelona winger Ferran Torres, whom Guardiola has praised as ‘exceptional.’ The bid is reported to be £12.8m plus £4.2m in potential add-ons, which is significantly lower than the £55m Barcelona paid for him in 2021.
Last season, the 24-year-old scored 11 goals and provided four assists, a decent but not outstanding return considering his transfer cost. Newcastle’s bid appears far below his current valuation, making it unlikely that Barcelona will accept it.
Newcastle United Journalist Denies Rumor
Daily Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards has dismissed the rumor, stating that no bid has been made by Newcastle.
“I’ve been told there is no truth in claims Newcastle have made a bid for Ferran Torres,” Edwards posted on X.
Whether Torres is even a target for Newcastle remains uncertain, but any potential deal would likely exceed £30m.
