“Ex-Pro’s Glorious Chapter Comes to a Close After Epic League Victory”.
Former Saints midfielder Rory Delap has departed from his coaching position at Israeli club Maccabi Tel-Aviv after contributing to their league and cup double victory.
Delap, working alongside fellow Republic of Ireland international Robbie Keane, helped lead The Yellows to their 25th league championship.
Maccabi Tel-Aviv finished nine points ahead of Maccabi Haifa, largely due to the efforts of star forward Eran Zahavi.
Maccabi owner Mitch Goldhar expressed his gratitude, stating: “I would like to thank Robbie and his team, Rory Delap, Dave Sarakan, Mike Stawell, and Phillip Hudson, for their hard work and dedication this season, bringing the championship back to Maccabi.”
Delap, 47, played 152 times for Southampton between 2001 and 2006 and earned 11 caps for Ireland.
Southampton, managed by Russell Martin, have been linked with a move for Delap’s son Liam, who is currently under contract with Manchester City.
Liam Delap scored eight goals in 31 matches while on loan at Hull City, narrowly missing out on the Championship playoffs.
Manchester City reportedly declined a £16 million bid from Southampton for Delap in 2022 following an impressive Premier League 2 season.
Since then, Liam Delap has made 68 appearances in the Championship, also playing for Stoke City and Preston North End.
