“Toffees’ Garner Confidence High Despite Spurs’ Swoop”.
Everton are optimistic about securing a new contract for their midfield star James Garner, according to sources cited by Football Insider.
On Monday (June 3), Football Insider reported that Everton has initiated discussions with the 23-year-old Garner regarding a potential contract renewal.
Despite his current contract running until June 2026, Everton and manager Sean Dyche are eager to reward Garner’s progress with an extended deal.
The club is also aiming to deter interest from other Premier League teams.
Sources informed Football Insider in February that Tottenham and Newcastle United have been monitoring Garner’s performances at Everton.
The England Under-21 international played in various roles, including on both flanks, as a holding midfielder, and in a box-to-box position this season.
Garner made 44 appearances in all competitions during the 2023-24 season, starting in 41 of those matches.
Despite ongoing financial issues and the recent collapse of 777 Partners’ takeover, Everton has commenced talks with Garner.
Everton acquired Garner from Manchester United for a reported £15 million two years ago after an impressive loan spell with Nottingham Forest.
He was one of Dyche’s key players in the 2023-24 season, with only James Tarkowski, Jordan Pickford, and Jarrad Branthwaite logging more minutes.
