Jo Potter’s team headed to the national stadium eager to win the Scottish Gas Cup after the crushing disappointment of losing the league title to Celtic on goal difference just a week earlier. They were moments away from claiming the title before a late goal denied them. In reality, the league was lost weeks before due to some disappointing performances that squandered their lead.
Injuries and a dip in form significantly affected the team, which was evident in Potter’s selection choices. Rio Hardy, the team’s top scorer, was surprisingly benched.
Potter made some unexpected selections, leaving out young player of the year Mia McAuley, along with Rachel Rowe, Jane Ross, and Sarah Ewans, from the starting lineup.

The second half began much like the first had ended, with Rangers in control. Hardy, who came on as a substitute in the 60th minute, nearly scored with her first touch but couldn’t finish. Rangers maintained their dominance after taking the lead, and it was only a matter of time before they scored again, with Arnot placing the ball into the bottom corner from outside the box.
Rangers comfortably secured a 2-0 victory, which was well-earned against a resilient Hearts side that has posed challenges all season.
This win ensured that Rangers Women finished the season on a positive note. While they regret how the league title was lost, they can take pride in winning two trophies and look forward to addressing their shortcomings next season.
