“Saturday’s Headlines: Kentucky Basketball’s Reclassification Candidates in the Spotlight: Wildcats Poised to Make Moves in Recruitment with Eyes on 2024 Class”
As Kentucky aims to complete its roster for the upcoming season, many believe the Wildcats are interested in using one of their final scholarships on either Jaxson Robinson or Wooga Poplar, both of whom are still considering the NBA Draft. While there is a slight chance Kentucky could secure both players, it is more likely they will get just one, leaving an additional scholarship available.
Could Kentucky use this remaining scholarship for a potential reclassification candidate?
Zack Geohegan from Kentucky Sports Radio recently identified three possible candidates for this scenario.
Four-star wing Will Riley appears to be the most likely option. The 6’8″ wing has garnered significant interest from Mark Pope, and speculation about a reclassification to 2024 has been increasing. Riley is recognized for his shot-making ability, length, and scoring prowess at multiple levels, making him one of the top scorers in his class.
Riley is anticipated to visit Kentucky in June, and given Pope’s focus on him, Kentucky appears to be a strong candidate in his recruitment. Darryn Peterson and Jasper Johnson are also notable prospects, but currently, I believe Johnson will remain in the 2025 class, while Peterson’s situation is more uncertain.
If Kentucky decides to reclassify a player to fill its last spot, Riley seems to be the likely choice.
