Rangers suffered an early transfer setback after unexpected Neil Lennon twist today.
Rangers‘ pursuit of Rapid Bucuresti’s Albion Rrahmani has already been thwarted ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to Kosovan Football via X [18 May], the Gers are competing with Aston Villa and Benfica to sign the 23-year-old striker, who has 19 goals and five assists in all competitions.
Philippe Clement will look for a new striker during the summer transfer window, with current attacker Cyriel Dessers under fire after scoring 22 goals this season.
However, the Scottish team has been dealt an unusual blow in their pursuit of Rrahmani, as the Romanian club has appointed a new management for the 2024/25 season.
The club announced on Monday [20 May] that former Celtic manager Neil Lennon has been appointed to lead Bucuresti into the next season, making Rangers’ attempts to capture the in-form striker considerably more difficult.
Despite finishing second in the Romanian premier division, they ended last when the league was split, much like the Scottish Premiership. Due to his poor form, the striker may consider leaving.
With Lennon’s Celtic ties, he is unlikely to enable the Gers to sign Rrahmani this summer, especially if the move would help the Old Firm club fight with their Scottish Premiership rivals.
