Leicester City may find themselves compelled to offload a player for £35 million despite their promotion.
Financial worries have clouded Leicester City’s glorious comeback to the Premier League and cast a shade over their well-publicized promotion from the Championship.
The club has just won the Championship title, but they still have to deal with the strict requirements of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
When the Foxes returned to the top division in 2022–23, they revealed a startling pre-tax loss of £89.7 million, raising concerns about their financial viability. As Leicester City looks to avoid a similar fate of point deductions on their return to the top flight, the ghosts of Nottingham Forest and Everton, who also struggled to comply with these laws, loom big.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has provided insight into the club’s situation, speculating that they could have to give up one of their most valuable assets in order to satisfy the PSR’s demands. One of Leicester’s best players, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, has surfaced as a possible victim of the team’s financial difficulties.
Even though Dewsbury-Hall has stated that he wants to stay at Leicester City, the team’s dire financial circumstances might compel them to entertain offers for the gifted midfielder.
According to Jacobs, Dewsbury-Hall is a “pure-profit player,” which makes Manchester United and Arsenal among other possible suitors eager to sign him.
“Leicester are going to have to sell despite coming up to the Premier League, and they might still have to sell relatively fast,” he said to GIVEMESPORT.
And although Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has stated in the open that he has no intention of leaving, this is where the club may decide that at the proper number, they must sacrifice him. Kiernan is a pure-profit player.
Jacobs further disclosed that the midfield player may be available for roughly £35 million and that Manchester United, Brentford, and Brighton are interested in signing him.
The 25-year-old has been instrumental in helping the Foxes win the Championship this season having contributed by scoring 12 goals and providing 14 assists for Enzo Maresca’s side.
