Premier League taunt Everton with official post amid points deduction appeal saga
The Premier League has taunted Everton in an official post over the appeal to their points deduction.
The league posted a picture of the top-flight table on its Twitter page on Thursday (22 February), where it included an asterisk next to the Toffees’ name, with a note about their 10-point deduction on the bottom of the graphic.
It comes as the Blues are still waiting to hear back about their appeal against the ruling, with the matter now dragging on since November.
There was understandably a fierce backlash from those of an Everton perspective towards the post as many saw it as the Premier League having a laugh at their expense.
There is absolutely no reason why it’s taken so long to reach a new verdict as this is simply an appeal, rather than a full court case.
The Toffees need to know where they stand on the matter as it could prove to be the difference in deciding which league they will be playing in next season.
While they currently find themselves outside of the relegation zone, they are level on points with third-bottom Luton Town, who have been putting up a real fight in their bid for survival.
It’s so far unknown how many points the Blues could receive back if they were to be successful, but they would probably welcome any at this moment in time.
Frustrations are certainly building after the club’s supporters were already unimpressed by how the Premier League has handled the situation from the beginning.
Sean Dyche will want a resolution to the matter soon, not only so he knows where his team stands, but also to bring to an end the relentless questions he’s faced about the appeal over the past few months.

While the Toffees were in the wrong and they admitted their guilt, there are still many people who feel they were dealt with harshly.
It’s even harsher to keep their loyal fans waiting so long to hear back about the appeal as they have already been through enough over the past few years.
With the many unknowns regarding the takeover by 777 Partners and the club’s finances in a mess, it would be a welcome boost to the supporters’ spirits if they can get a few points back.
That decision simply has to come soon as another set of top-flight matches is just around the corner in the build-up to the end of the season.
