‘When everyone else is gone’… 27-year-old Tottenham player claims he’s always the last one to leave training

The midfielder just has this innate ability to pick a pass or ping a shot that many of us could only ever dream of having.

While it would seem that Maddison has something of a God-given talent when it comes to striking a ball, you don’t become that good without a lot of hard work.

Speaking on Stephen Hendry’s YouTube channel, Maddison has shared some insight into how hard he trains, and he says that he’s often the last person to leave Tottenham training due to the fact he always stays behind and practices his set-pieces.

The 27-year-old spoke about how much he practices his set plays.

“I’ve always been a set-piece taker, I’ve always, like I just said about Becks. I loved practicing free kicks and dead ball situations. A free kick is the only thing I can relate to an individual sport, like golf or snooker. It’s repetition, it’s just you, you can never train by yourself and replicate a team sport, but set pieces is the one that you can,

“So, would you stay there longer than everyone else when everyone else is gone?” Maddison was asked.

“Yeah,” Maddison said.

You can absolutely tell that Maddison puts tons of work in on his set plays.

His ability from dead-ball situations is second-to-none, and you don’t get to that level without hours and hours of work and repetition.

Maddison works harder than anyone else on his set plays, and that’s why he’s better than almost anyone else in this regard.

The midfielder may seem like he’s always having fun when he’s playing football, but make no mistake about it, he’s put in a painstaking amount of work on his game.
